  • Job

    $69.99

“But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell?”

The book of Job is challenging. Its Hebrew is often obscure, its length and subject matter are intimidating, and its meaning has been debated throughout the history of biblical interpretation. In this commentary, Duane A. Garrett presents a fresh argument for the book’s meaning. Job demonstrates the inability of Wisdom, as a theological tradition, to solve the problem of evil. Without rejecting Wisdom, it shows that only God can truly deal with evil. God’s answer to evil is found only in Christ, who is anticipated in the book of Job.

  • Approaching God : Lessons From Leviticus

    $13.99

Michael A. Milton uncovers the treasures of one of the Bible’s regularly overlooked books in this pastoral treatment of Leviticus.

God’s call changed everything for the Israelites. Amid the vast, severe wilderness landscape of the Sinai region, in sun-scorched sorrow and disappointment over a recent national sin – the creation and worship of an idol of smelted jewelry – life abruptly changes. With the first line of Leviticus, “And the Lord called,” God interrupts time and space, regret and reason, futility and hope. He reveals the pattern of the gospel: the holiness of God, the problem of human sin, God’s plan of salvation, His call to holiness through His gracious provision. He shows a way for sinful humans to live in the presence of a holy God.

    Leviticus for modern-day Christians

This call doesn’t just affect the ancient Israelites – Milton shows how Leviticus still speaks to Christ’s followers today. This book of the law points consistently to Jesus, the fullness and fulfilment of every antitype. It reveals to us in stark terms the abhorrence of sin, and the barrier it creates between mankind and God.

Beginning with a helpful overview of Leviticus, and after providing some beneficial information about its title, authorship, time and biblical context, Milton tackles the book in four sections:

    *Called to Worship (chapters 1-7)
    *Called to Ministry (chapters 8-10)
    *Called to Purity (chapters 11-16)
    *Called to Holiness (chapters 17-27)

Throughout, we see how this call applies not only to the ancient Israelites, but also to us.

Approaching God will be excellent for personal bible study, or for a pastor or small group leader working through the book.

  • Message Of Isaiah (Revised)

    $25.00

The book of Isaiah is outstanding in its brilliance of style, poetic power, and foretaste of the hope of the gospel. It tells how God himself has provided the highway to holiness for those who have been redeemed. These are images that evoke the exodus from Egypt and foreshadow Christ’s achievement at the cross. There is joy even in Isaiah’s portrayal of judgment-rebuilding within the demolition, the new replacing the old-as world events reveal God’s hand.

In the visionary world of Isaiah, the varied themes and imagery of the Old Testament converge and blend as they project an extraordinary climax of the story of Israel and of the world. Barry Webb calls Isaiah the Romans of the Old Testament, where all the threads come together and the big picture of God’s purposes are most clearly set forth. Attuned to the magnificent literary architecture of Isaiah, Webb escorts us through this prophecy and trains our ears and hearts to resonate with its great biblical-theological themes.

Part of the beloved Bible Speaks Today series, The Message of Isaiah offers an insightful, readable exposition of the biblical text and thought-provoking discussion of how its meaning relates to contemporary life. Used by students and teachers around the world, the Bible Speaks Today commentaries are ideal for those studying or preaching the Bible and anyone who wants to delve deeper into the text. • Listening To The Jewish Jesus

    $17.99

Paul Luckraft’s book explores the Hebraic nature of the teaching of Jesus and shows how a first-century rabbi spoke to other Jews of the time and in particular taught his disciples. What can we expect to find from such an exploration, and what can this mean for us today?

Jesus used many Hebraic idioms, expressions commonly used in one language but which make less sense in another. Someone outside the culture or who is not a native speaker can easily be confused. A better grasp of such Hebraisms within the gospels will greatly improve our understanding of what Jesus is saying to us.

In his teaching Jesus often hinted at the Jewish scriptures, employing the rabbinic technique of remez. These allusions to the Old Testament would be readily picked up by his listeners but we can miss them. We need to find these and unpack the depths of their meaning.

Jesus’ teaching also reflects aspects of first-century Judaism with which we are largely unfamiliar and need to appreciate more fully. One of these is the relationship between a rabbi and his disciples, a theme which occupies the first part of the book.

This book will help those who teach the Bible as well as provide a companion for anyone wanting to read the gospels more accurately and follow Jesus more closely.
Come and listen afresh to the Jewish Jesus.

  • Friend Of God

    $22.99

‘Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith. He was even called the friend of God.’ (James 2.23)

Abraham is the only character in the Bible to be described as ‘the friend of God’, and this comprehensive study by John Lennox shows why.

Abraham is unquestionably one of the most outstanding and influential figures in world history. He had no political or military achievements, and he left no literary remains, yet today billions of people – more than half of the world’s population – claim him as their spiritual father.

Throughout the Bible Abraham is seen as a pivotal figure in God’s plan of salvation, and in this richly detailed account of his life and times, John Lennox helps us to see through mists of the past to the real flesh-and-blood man, with all his strengths and weaknesses, and to better appreciate all that Abraham stands for as a model of faith for today.

Charles L. Quarles demonstrates that the Gospel of Matthew is foremost a testimony about Jesus. Each pericope centers on Jesus and reveals something about who he is, what he has done, and what his disciples should do in response. Quarles teases out Matthew’s unique theological presentation of Jesus’s identity and work. Jesus is the new and greater Moses and the new and greater David who fulfills Old Testament hopes by establishing God’s covenant and kingdom. This Gospel invites us to know and worship Jesus, who makes all things new.

Matthew S. Harmon traces the argument of Paul’s most polemic letter. History and Scripture must be interpreted in light of Christ’s arrival. The new creation has broken in, leaving nothing unaltered. Harmon plumbs Galatians’ theological depth, including its view of sin and exile, apocalyptic antitheses, the Trinity, Isaiah’s servant figure, the law, righteousness, and faith(fulness).

Joshua is not merely a story of conquest but also a treasure trove of theology.David G. Firth interprets the book of Joshua with a sensitivity to its place as Christian Scripture. Joshua is marginalized in many churches, often because its message is misunderstood. Firth reveals that, rather than simply being a story of conquest, Joshua is concerned with matters of identity and faithfulness. Joshua exhorts God’s people to live out their calling in light of God’s promises. While Israelites like Achan fall short, others–often gentiles–show surprising faith in God. Firth also probes the book’s theological themes, such as the promised land, government, rest, and promise. The book of Joshua boldly challenges the complacent in faith to be a nation committed to God. Joe M. Sprinkle connects Daniel with the biblical story. Debates rage around Daniel’s dating, historicity, and referents. With this focus on historical context, Daniel’s canonical context is often lost. While arguing for conservative dating and historicity, Sprinkle focuses on how Daniel is a fulcrum for many theological themes in both the OT and NT. Daniel says much about God’s nature, his relationship with history, the heavenly host, the Messiah, the coming kingdom, and the last things.

  • Message Of Acts (Revised)

    $30.00

The Spirit moves the church into the world.

That is how it has always been since the day of Pentecost, when the Spirit brought thousands from many countries into the body of Christ. With the breadth and scholarly care that marked John Stott’s years of ministry, this revised Bible Speaks Today volume opens to us the early days of the church as recorded by Luke in the book of Acts. The experiences of the early church have much to say about issues that concern Christians today. What can Acts tell us about tongues and other extraordinary manifestations of the Spirit? How should churches structure themselves–with elders, deacons, pastors or all three? What should a normal Christian conversion look like? And, of course, how should the church reach out into the world with the message of salvation? This revised edition of a classic Bible Speaks Today volume features lightly updated language, current NIV Scripture quotations and a new interior design. A study guide at the end of the book will help you more deeply ponder the message of Acts and how it speaks to your life.

Luke’s account mentions places from all over the known world, and Paul’s missionary travels covered an estimated 15,000 miles by land and sea.
